Minecraft 1.20 - Where is the update?

Some time has passed since the 1.20 update for Minecraft was first introduced at the Minecraft Live 2022 event. Since then, fans have been patiently waiting for more information about the content and especially the release of the update. We summarize again what we know so far.

New animal: camel / dromedary

The update 1.20 for Minecraft is currently only planned for 2023. There is no more precise date yet. Since 2023 is still very young, there is a lot of time left. A major new feature of the update is a new animal companion in the game world: the camel or dromedary.

These friendly companions will roam the world in the future and can be used as mounts - even by 2 players at the same time. The camel is also able to jump, which can be charged up to pounce forward a bit. Perhaps these cuddly creatures will become the new favorites of the community.

New building material: bamboo

Another new feature is that bamboo has more uses as a building material. Starting with various bamboo blocks, stairs, fences, signs and much more, you can do all sorts of things with it in the 1.20 update. You can also create boats - with and without chests - and travel on the waters of the game world.

We find: More variety in building materials is always good and therefore very welcome.

Customize your armor

Yes, you heard right. With update 1.20 in Minecraft it will be possible to customize your armor (no matter what kind) visually. There will be 11 patterns and 10 different colors available. These can be applied to any armor.

In order for you to make these adjustments, there will be a new material called "smithing template". You will be able to find it everywhere in the game world, so you better start looking for it.

Improved bookshelves, hanging signs and more

But that's not where the new features stop. The developers have also already confirmed that there will be functional bookshelves (so you can really store books), signs that can henceforth hang down from above.

Also the winner of the mob voting, the sniffer, should find its way into the 1.20 update according to the current status.

It remains to be seen whether there will be more features and what they might be. In any case, we are curious when there will be information about when the update will be released on the live servers.

Currently, you can already try out the new features via the snapshot function. Please note, however, that you have to create a new world and select the 1.20 data package in the world creation.
