Since the successful Early Access launch, the Windrose devs have already been working on the first major content update. While there isn't a complete roadmap yet, we've put together a summary of everything that's been floating around online.

Windrose: Early Access Release Date Reveal Trailer

Off to new shores: The Ashlands biom

What has already been officially announced and confirmed is that, in the first content update, which, by the way, is currently scheduled for fall 2026, we’ll be heading to the Ashlands. This is a new, volcanic region that will be significantly more dangerous than anything you can currently find in Windrose. Of course, we expect volcanoes, lava, and ash-covered beaches. Let’s hope our ships don’t catch fire and burn down.

The developers have also mentioned that they’re working on new ship classes and variants, along with new building components for your base, so you can continue to shape it to your liking. They’re also working on the behavior of NPC ships so that, in the future, they’ll sail in formations more effectively, for example, rather than just cruising haphazardly across the sea.

It will also be exciting to see how the developers handle the topic of “wind”. After the release, many players provided feedback saying they’d like to see more interaction with the wind. The devs wanted to look into this, but they also noted that they don’t want to turn Windrose into a sailing simulator, so the system shouldn’t become too complex. Personally, we think wind mechanics would be pretty cool, at least as a bonus for even faster sailing if you use the wind effectively; that would be awesome.

Speculation from the community

And now we come to the more speculative part. As usual, the community isn’t holding back on guesses and speculation. So you should take all of the following points with a grain of salt, since none of them have been confirmed.

Much of the community’s wishes and ideas are based on statements from the developers, who have said that the full version will offer about 50% more content than Early Access and will include not only new biomes but also new bosses, enemies, ships, loot, and additional game mechanics. And to defeat new bosses, you’ll naturally need new weapons and gear. These could always have a thematic style. In the upcoming Ashlands update, for example, slightly charred outfits with fiery weapons and the like. We hope, however, that the pirate setting doesn’t drift too far into the realm of fantasy.

There’s also discussion about whether upcoming ships could branch out into specific specializations, such as ships for transport, exploration, and combat. This would be particularly interesting for co-op, where everyone on the team can take on a specific role and has to rely on their fellow crewmates.

In conclusion, we can say that we’re very excited to see where the journey with Windrose will take us. The Early Access launch has shown that many of us are eager to live the pirate life and are hungry for new adventures. So if the developers release cool new content, the future of Windrose looks bright. We’ll of course keep you updated here on GPORTAL News whenever there’s news about Windrose.
