Tomorrow’s the day: Enshrouded 1.0 is finally going live—and Sparkworks is right there with it. The new logic system ensures that your builds can finally do more than just look good.

What is Enshrouded Sparkworks?

Simply put: Sparkworks connects a trigger to an action. For example, you step on a pressure plate and a door opens. Or you pull a lever and the connected trap is activated.

Sparkworks can stay simple or get pretty elaborate. You can combine multiple conditions and actions to build your own mechanics for your base, minigames, puzzles, or even entire dungeons.

Or you can have your friend walk across a bridge and suddenly the floor folds aside. By the way, Keen Games brought this idea into the game themselves, so you’re completely innocent.

How Sparkworks exactly works

Using switchboxes and the Sparkworks tool, you can link buttons, levers, pressure plates, triggers, and other actions. You can also name the individual connections so that, even with larger setups, you’ll still know which switch actually triggers what.

For complex circuits, there are additional logic blocks. The official showcase features clocks and timers, as well as NOT and OR logic, among other things. With these, you can, for example, delay or invert signals, or combine multiple conditions. It works similarly to Minecraft Redstone, and if you’re familiar with that, you can probably guess where all this might lead.

If none of this means anything to you and your mind went blank just hearing “NOT,” “OR,” and “clocks,” don’t worry: There will be a separate tutorial for Enshrouded Sparkworks in the game.

From harmless to downright nasty: What you can build

In Keen Games’ video, it quickly becomes clear that the new system goes far beyond automatic doors. Among other things, you can create:

  • timed spike traps with pressure plates
  • parkour courses with triggers and precise timing
  • mechanics where you strategically control water to trigger doors and mechanisms
  • electric traps that can be deactivated with a switch
  • hidden paths and staircases
  • rooms where enemies suddenly spawn when you enter
  • entire dungeons and minigames

However, there’s a limit when it comes to spawning enemies: you can only use enemies you’ve already defeated yourself. Unfortunately, certain special boss enemies are excluded from the fun.

There are virtually no limits to creativity, and even during testing, some wild builds have emerged: working elevators, clocks, and hidden staircases—all built with Sparkworks.

And what does Adventure Sharing have to do with this?

What’s the point of a dungeon you built yourself if, in the end, only your own crew gets to explore it? This is exactly where Enshrouded Adventure Sharing comes into play.

This feature has been available since “Forging the Path.” It lets you upload your own world, search for and download other players’ creations directly within Enshrouded, and explore them alone or with your crew. Back then, Keen Games announced plans to expand Adventure Sharing later on. Sparkworks is the next step in that process.

This transforms an exciting world meant just for viewing into something others can actually play: escape rooms, obstacle courses, temples with puzzles, dungeons full of traps, or completely crazy minigames. What exactly ends up coming out of it really depends on just how far the community takes it.

Sparkworks is set to be expanded further

Sparkworks is far from over with Enshrouded 1.0. Keen Games plans to continue expanding the system even after release, responding to feedback from players and the community along the way.

For example, the Sparkworks video already mentions a future reset mechanism. This would make it easier to restore dungeons and other Sparkworks creations to their initial state after they’ve been played through once.

Turn your base into a game with Sparkworks

The Enshrouded building system was already a huge playground for creative minds. Sparkworks takes it a step further: Your builds can react to players, set traps, open paths, provoke enemies, and turn all of this into massive challenges.

Before you get started with your friends in 1.0, you should just clarify whether you’ll continue playing your old world or start completely fresh. Find out on the GPORTAL Blog whether you can carry over your old Enshrouded save game or if you should start over.

Rent your Enshrouded server now at GPORTAL and jump right into version 1.0 with your friends. Build, test, and tinker your way through your first Sparkworks circuits together. And always remember: If you see a random pressure plate in the middle of nowhere, let someone else step on it first. Better safe than sorry.
