If you want to make serious progress in the later stages of Hytale, there's no getting around Voidhearts and Void Essence. And if you think these two items are just “nice to have” drops, you're absolutely wrong. At some point, even the strongest equipment and ore will no longer be enough. Suddenly, the Hytale Essence of the Void becomes important
You've spent some time in Hytale and are surely familiar with Essence of Fire, Essence of Ice, and of course Essence of Life. You may have heard of Essence of the Void before, but have you ever seen it?
If you're out and about in Hytale at night, you've probably come across one of those nasty creatures that only spawn at night, and you may even have Essence of the Void in your inventory. If you don't know what to do with it, help is at hand.
Once you've fought your first battle against Void enemies, you'll realize that the fight itself isn't really the problem. However, in order to get a lot of Void Essence, you'll need to defeat a lot of enemies of this type. And that's where it gets difficult and you'll need to be patient. You will receive Void Essence regularly when you are out and about in Hytale at night, but you will have to spend many nights doing so.
You need Void Essence in the game for advanced crafting. This resource is particularly important for crafting at special workbenches such as the Arcanist's Workbench. You also need the essence to craft this workbench, which you can use to craft the Ice Crystal Staff and Flame Crystal Staff, among other things. Void Essence is also essential for higher-quality equipment and tools. So if you don't use Void Essence, your progress will eventually stagnate and you will definitely have a harder time in the endgame.
Voidhearts – Valuable and essential
Just like Essence of Void, Voidhearts also drop from enemies that are out and about at night. Unlike Void Essence, however, Voidhearts are rather rare, which is exactly as intended.
The reason Voidhearts are rather difficult to obtain in Hytale is simply because they are mainly needed for real progress. First and foremost, the armor workbench requires Voidhearts for further tier upgrades, otherwise you will never get really strong armor. Backpack upgrades in Hytale also require Voidhearts, which is important if you don't want to run back to base every few minutes. In short, this means that Voidhearts don't determine how fast you can progress, but whether you can progress at all – so let's get started!
Is Void farming really only possible at night?
Currently, there is really no way around the fact that you can only get Voidhearts and Essence of the Void from Void enemies such as Void Eyes, Void Spawns, and Void Spectres. These only appear in the dark, and there is no real way to get the drops during the day. This was deliberately built in by the Hytale developers and is part of the progression system.
If you want to make Hytale void farming as enjoyable as possible, you should search primarily in desert and snow regions. Enemies are much easier to spot there than in areas where the grass grows tall and numerous trees and hills obscure the view. But there is actually another way to obtain Voidhearts and Essence of the Void.

Focused farming with the Hytale Void Gateway
In addition to classic nighttime farming, there is another advanced alternative: the Void Gateway. These gateways are unlocked later in the game through advanced crafting. This requires the Arcanist's Workbench and Void resources. For the gateway, you need all kinds of materials, including Thorium Ingots and Essence of Void.
When you go through the gateway, you enter an area where Void spawns occur in high concentrations. There, you can farm both Voidhearts and Essence of the Void, but the difficulty level is noticeably higher, and only players who are really well prepared and equipped should choose this route.
Jump into the Void grind with strong support
Collecting both items takes time, effort and nerves – and that's exactly the intention. It should feel like a small victory every time.
Both items belong together and are intertwined in the gameplay of Hytale. If you have enough Essence of the Void, it won't help you in the long run if you can't upgrade without Voidhearts. And Voidhearts alone won't help you if you don't have Essence of the Void to craft important items like strong armor.
