Enshrouded: Fast travel and terraforming

The world in Enshrouded is huge and very expansive and you can quickly lose track of things, especially at the start of the game. It's handy to have the option of fast travel and terraforming to reach places more quickly instead of having to work your way along hills or long paths, for example.

Setting and using fast travel points and ancient spires

First of all, the good news: You can use fast travel in Enshrouded from the very first moment, as it is available from the first Flame Altar. If you have already taken your first steps in Enshrouded, you have probably already set up one or possibly even several Flame Altars. These altars are also fast travel points that you can set up at any location and then, of course, use. When you open the map, select the Flame Altar and then click on Fast Travel in the submenu and you will be at the selected location.

Initially, you can only set up two Flame Altars, but you can upgrade them or strengthen their flame. To strengthen the flame of the altar, you must find and use shroud cores. If you strengthen the flame, the area around the altar will increase, allowing you to expand your camp. If you want to upgrade your existing altars, you will need significantly more resources, but these can also be obtained quite easily over the course of the game. Each time you upgrade your altars, you gain the opportunity to place more altars, your attributes improve and, most importantly, you can stay in the Shroud for longer periods of time without taking damage.

As you can see, with a little work and the constant collection of all kinds of resources, you can build up a pretty big fast travel system and explore Embervale down to the smallest corners much more easily. Even if you can only build two altars at the start, you shouldn't underestimate them, because you'll probably collect a lot of things that come your way at that point and that's why it would be very annoying if you encountered enemy foes and died and lost all your stuff.

Another option for fast travel is the so-called "ancient spire" in Enshrouded. As you move through the world of Embervale, you will come across the ancient spires at some point or at the latest through quests. These are structures that already exist in the world and can also be activated and used as fast travel points.

Terraforming for fast progress and climbing

Even though terraforming in Enshrouded is of course not a fast travel option, it still ensures that you can get to seemingly unreachable places more quickly. In videos and pictures of Enshrouded, you will find all kinds of works that have been created using the terraforming module. From artfully sculpted mountains to caves that have been modeled into impressive shapes or creatures by creative minds. But above all, we recommend that you use terraforming to build small staircases or stairs and passages. This will allow you to get through areas that block the way to your goal much faster, for example, or to mountains that may hold interesting places or treasures for you.

Note: You cannot use the terraforming tool outside of an altar area, but you can still use the pickaxe, of which you can use one or even two.

Gliding through the air and flying high

In keeping with the theme of traveling and being able to move quickly around the map of Embervale, we would like to briefly introduce the different gliders in Enshrouded. There are four gliders in total, and the higher their level, the further and faster they can travel. You will need the following resources to craft the four gliders:

  • Normal glider: To craft the normal glider, you need 8x Shroud Wood, 2x Animal Fur, 2x String and 2x Shroud Spores
  • Advanced glider: This glider requires 8x Shroud Sack, 6x Shroud Wood, 4x Yarn and 4x Linen and can be crafted by the carpenter
  • Extraordinary glider: Requires 4x Shroud Wood, 4x Alchemical Base, 2x Linen and 2x Leather. Can also be crafted at the carpenter
  • Ghost glider: You cannot simply build the best glider. First you have to unlock it by successfully completing a quest and then you can find the recipe at the carpenter. You will need 4x Enshrouded Oil, 3x Shroud Wood, 2x Fabric, 1x String and 1x Sulfur

Note that the use of a glider is tied to your stamina. This means you can only soar through the air until your stamina is depleted. To get airborne with the glider, you must climb a mountain or similar elevation and jump from there.

Hint: In your skills overview under Survivor, you can unlock a skill called "Double Jump". This allows you to climb fairly steep mountain faces and overcome obstacles fairly quickly, allowing you not only to make faster progress, but also to discover hidden surprises on mountain peaks and elevations.
