Minecraft Cheese – How the Flavor Comes into Play

And yes, strictly speaking, there is no cheese in the vanilla version (i.e. the original, unmodified Minecraft). But in the world of mods, custom items and server gimmicks, the cheese almost melts off your bread, there's so much choice! In this article, we'll take a look at how Minecraft cheese can be made, what it can do, where it comes from – and why you might soon want to build a small cheese factory in your cow shed.

Is There Really Something like Minecraft Cheese?

In the vanilla version: No. Mojang has not yet put any cheese cubes in the fridge. But there are numerous Minecraft cheese mods and datapacks. If you play on a Minecraft server from GPORTAL, you can also install these mods without any problems. G-Portal supports both custom mod uploads and a selection of preconfigured modpacks that already contain many cheese-friendly mods. Simply select the appropriate modpack or upload your desired mods via FTP and start cheesing!

How to Make Cheese in Minecraft?

Crafting cheese varies depending on the mod, but it usually boils down to the following basic principle:

  • Getting milk – logical. Right-click a cow with an empty bucket to get a bucket of milk. In some mods, you can also use a bowl instead of a bucket.
  • Turn milk into Minecraft cheese – there are two popular ways to do this:
  1. Place milk in a bowl in the oven: This creates cheese – especially with simpler mods or datapacks.
  2. Combine milk with salt in a bowl: Often results in a kind of ‘curd’ or fresh cheese, which is then further processed or matured.

In more complex mods, you also need vinegar or rennet (e.g. from fermented apples). Some mods also require the cheese to be ‘ripened’ (e.g. using a ripening block or barrel).

What is Minecraft Cheese Used for?

Minecraft Cheese is not just a snack to satisfy your hunger, but can be used in many ways:

  • as an ingredient in recipes: Depending on the mod, you can use cheese to conjure up delicacies such as a cheeseburger, a grilled cheese sandwich, mac & cheese, a pizza or a cheesecake.
  • for creative building projects or as a decorative element: There are also mods in which cheese can be placed in blocks – perfect for a culinary cheese house!
  • for payment: On some servers in Minecraft, ‘cheese’ even exists as a currency. You read that right – pay with cheese instead of emeralds!

How Well does Minecraft Cheese Satisfy Hunger?

How well Minecraft cheese satisfies your hunger depends on the mod. As a rule, cheese provides 2-4 hunger points and has a medium to good satiety. This means that you won't get hungry again immediately. In some mods, cheese can mature, and the older it is, the better its effect. Sounds realistic – and tasty!

Dishes with cheese are usually even more effective: a cheeseburger will easily get you back in shape for the next creeper attack.
