Enshrouded Farming and Cooking Guide
In Enshrouded you have the opportunity to do your own farming. With the resulting harvest and other resources, you can also cook nutritious dishes with practical buffs. You can find all the information about farming and cooking in the following GPORTAL blog.
How farming works in Enshrouded
Before you grab your shovel and rake and start digging beds and holes at random, we first have to tell you that you need to unlock the farmer NPC called Emily Fray. You can find out how to get Emily Fray and the other NPCs in our corresponding blog. So if you've already made this much progress and have been able to create a nice home for Emily in your base, it's now time to give your farming a little boost.
As soon as you interact with Emily and talk to her, the first items will be unlocked, such as soil, which you can produce from 7x Soil and 3x Bone Meal. If you haven't needed bone meal yet and don't know where to get it: You need to grind bones with the grinding stones from the alchemist Balthazar and you'll have bone meal. In addition to the farmland, another object is unlocked - the planting bed. You can make the bed from 10x Logs, 10x Soil and 2x Scrap Metal. You can find out where to get scrap metal in our blog about scrap metal and ores.
In the planting bed, you can grow your own seedlings from all kinds of plants that you have found while exploring and traveling through Embervale, which you can then grow in fields of arable soil. Theoretically, you can also plant seedlings on normal soil, but they grow much faster with additional soil. Conveniently, you don't really have to look after your plants as they don't need to be watered or cared for. So you don't even need a green thumb to get your own harvest soon. To ensure that your seedlings can really grow and thrive in the planting bed, you need to make sure that you not only place the desired plant in the bed, but also the other resources, which usually consist of water and another item.
Hint: Flax is one of the best seedlings that you can grow yourself, especially at the beginning and as the game progresses. Flax is used by the huntress to make linen, which is almost always needed.
Cook dishes and receive practical buffs
In addition to the raw foods that can be found and harvested in the world, such as berries, peppers or mushrooms, which only give you light and short buffs, you can cook entire dishes with the help of the farmer, which provide you with really good buffs. In the beginning, you will mainly use a normal campfire to roast raw meat from wolves or other animals, for example. As soon as you have unlocked the Farmer, she will give you better cooking options and you can also cook dishes with her help.
To be able to cook dishes, you will of course need recipes. You can also gradually unlock these via the Farmer, for example by collecting new resources on your tours through Embervale, which can be an ingredient in another recipe. For example, by completing her quests, the farmer will unlock a fireplace on which you can cook. Dishes made from several ingredients always have better and more stats and last longer than plants or simple items such as cooked meat. You can eat a total of three foods at the same time. You can see an overview of this at the top of your HUD. Depending on the dish, you will receive buffs to your stamina, mana, strength or health. The following recipes, for example, require rather easy-to-obtain ingredients, but also give good buffs:
- Fruit bowl: For this you need 2x strawberries, 2x purple berries, 1x honey and 1x yucca fruit. The fruit bowl is made at the fireplace and gives you +6 health regeneration and +3 stamina recharge for 45 minutes
- Grilled yucca fruit: This dish is also prepared over the fire pit. You only need one yucca fruit and it gives you +20 stamina recharge for 7 minutes
- Flatbread: The bread is prepared in the oven using 1x salt, 1x flour and 1x water. You receive +4 strength for 40 minutes
- Boiled eggs: You make the boiled eggs at the fireplace from 1x egg and 1x water. For 40 minutes, you receive +3 health regeneration, +3 stamina recharge and +2 mana recharge
Note: You can obtain a fourth food slot via the skill tree. You can only eat one dish of each type at a time. So if you have already eaten strawberries, you cannot also eat berries. Wait until the eaten food has finished and you can eat a new one.
