All new features in Valheim 1.0
Valheim 1.0 is here, introducing the Deep North biome as the final major biome, along with new weapons, armor, enemies, achievements, building objects, and several quality-of-life changes. You can find the most important new features on our blog.
Head into the Endgame with the Deep North
The snow-covered north is finally a full-fledged biome, following the Ashlands. There, new resources, dungeons, enemies, and a new boss await you. The snow isn’t just a visual element—in some cases, you’ll need to clear it away before you can build properly, for example.
Another new addition is a grappling hook to help you climb. So if you’ve finished the Valheim Ashlands, Deep North now gives you plenty to do again.
Over 40 new weapons and armor sets
The selection of weapons has grown significantly once again with Valheim 1.0. There are over 40 new weapons, including new melee weapons, bows, crossbows, shields, magic staffs, and more endgame gear.
In addition, there are four new armor sets, two capes, and two new trinkets. This means builds can be made significantly more varied in the endgame.
New enemies, dungeons, and a new boss
Deep North brings more than ten new creatures and enemies. There are also new dungeons and locations like the Winding Tunnels and Mörkhalla. And of course, a new boss awaits you at the end: Kall Fimbulbringer.
The new biome naturally also includes new resources, such as 30 new materials and more than 20 new dishes and foods. There are also new plants you can grow yourself, as well as new crafting stations and upgrades for existing workbenches.
Over 80 new building components
Do you dream of your own massive Viking fortress? Well, then absolutely nothing stands in your way. Valheim 1.0 has introduced over 80 new building components to the game. These include new walls, roofs, beams, furniture, and matching decorations. And the long-awaited drawbridges can finally be built. So let your imagination run wild and build your own castle in Valheim.
You still have space in your inventory
We’ve all been there: your inventory is full. You can’t carry anything else. That, too, is now a thing of the past.
You can now expand your inventory. With new bag upgrades from Merchant Haldor, you can unlock additional inventory slots.
Old Valheim worlds continue to run
For Valheim 1.0, you aren’t required to start a new world. Existing characters and saves can still be used with Valheim 1.0. However, there’s one important thing to keep in mind:
New content can only be generated correctly in areas you haven’t explored yet. If you’ve already explored the entire north, you should still consider starting a new world.
What about mods?
You should always be a bit cautious about mods when a new release comes out. Valheim still doesn’t offer official mod support, so older mods in particular might cause issues after the update.
If you’re using a heavily modded world, you should definitely check beforehand to see if the most important mods still work with version 1.0.
Valheim Mods on GPORTAL
On a GPORTAL Valheim server, you can easily install mods via the web interface. In the “Mods” section, you’ll find extensions from BepInEx and Thunderstore that can be installed with a single click—no external downloads or additional tools required.
Dependencies and notes on whether your fellow players also need the respective mod are displayed directly. Valheim Plus is also integrated and offers over 400 settings that let you customize your server.
Performance and Quality of Life
Beyond the Deep North, other parts of Valheim have also been tweaked. New features include an adjustable draw distance, changes to the save system, optimized world generation, new animations, and several improvements to menus and equipment.
Of course, there are also numerous bug fixes and balancing adjustments.
Head to the Deep North together on your own Valheim server
Naturally, with the new Deep North biome, the Valheim endgame is absolutely the focus of this update. But with over 40 new weapons, new armor sets, achievements, more inventory space, over 80 new building components, and much more, there’s significantly more to explore.
And let’s be honest: Getting lost in the snow by yourself is certainly fun, but it’s even better with friends. On your own GPORTAL Valheim server, you can start a new world with your friends, build your fortress, and then fight your way toward the Deep North together.
