Hytale Ancient Gateway – The Portal to new Worlds
A mysterious portal right in the middle of your base that lets you enter completely new worlds? That’s exactly what the Hytale Ancient Gateway is—a magical portal that sends you to temporary fragment worlds of Orbis. Collect rare resources and discover new challenges. Here, we’ll explain how to craft the portal and use it properly.
What is the Hytale Ancient Gateway?
The Ancient Gateway is a special portal that transports you to alternative, temporary worlds. These worlds are unstable dimensions filled with new biomes, enemies, and loot. You can think of these places as small adventure instances. They exist only for a limited time and offer unique challenges.
Once you’ve activated the Hytale Ancient Gateway, a portal to one of these worlds opens, and your own mini-expedition awaits in a different version of Orbis.

How to unlock the Ancient Gateway
Before you even think about building an Ancient Gateway, you must first make significant progress in the game: the Memories.
Hytale Memories are entries in your journal, which appear in the bottom right corner whenever you gain a new memory. Every time you discover new animals or creatures, a new entry is added once you’ve activated this feature in the Forgotten Temple. You can register your collected memories at the temple whenever you like. Once you’ve collected 100 Memories, a new building option is unlocked: the Ancient Gateway.

The Arcanist’s Workbench for a bit of magic
The Memories have been submitted, the Ancient Gateway has been unlocked, but how do you build it? For that, you’ll need the Arcanist’s Workbench. This workbench is one of the Hytale crafting stations and is unlocked once you’ve upgraded your standard workbench.
First, you’ll need the standard Hytale workbench, which you must then upgrade to Tier 2. Then you can craft the Arcanist’s Workbench. This workbench is specifically designed for magical items and teleportation—including the Ancient Gateway.

How to Craft the Ancient Gateway
Now that you have access to the Arcanist’s Workbench, you can finally craft the Hytale Ancient Gateway. You’ll need the following materials to craft it:
- 30x Stone
- 10x Thorium Ingots
- 10x Essence of Life
- 10x Essence of the Void
Stone and Essence of Life are easy-to-obtain materials, but Thorium and Essence of the Void are a bit harder to come by. You’ll find Thorium mainly in the Hytale Desert, though you’ll definitely need to watch out for enemies there. You can get Essence of the Void from enemies that spawn at night, which present you with special challenges.
Fragment Keys – The Key to new Dimensions
Once you’ve crafted the Ancient Gateway and placed it where you want, you might be surprised that exactly—nothing—happens. That’s because you need one more item: Fragment Keys.
This ‘Key’ determines which world you can enter. Different Hytale Fragment Keys lead you to different biomes and thus to different challenges. Fragment Keys are also crafted at the Arcanist’s Workbench. Once you’ve crafted a Fragment Key, you can insert it into the Ancient Gateway.
Activate the Ancient Gateway
Now we finally get to the exciting part. After you’ve inserted the Fragment Key into the Ancient Gateway, a portal opens, transporting you directly to the other world. This world and all the other worlds you can enter through the Gateway are temporary, often much more difficult, and full of valuable resources.
As soon as you walk through the portal, a small mini-expedition begins. Explore the area, fight enemies, collect as much loot as possible, and try to get everything out of it before the timer runs out. If the time runs out or you leave the world through the portal again, you’ll be automatically returned to your Gateway.

What’s the point of all this, and how much time do you actually have?
So now you find yourself in this Fragment World of Orbis—everything is temporary, specifically designed for a short adventure and epic loot runs. Now what?
Each Fragment World is deliberately designed to feel like its own little expedition, featuring its own biome, unique enemies, special resources, and in some cases even special bosses or structures that can only be found there. There is one key difference from the normal world: the time limit.
As soon as you enter this Fragment World, a timer starts. Depending on the fragment, you have varying amounts of time to explore the world. Usually, you have about 5 to 7 minutes, while larger areas can give you up to about 12 minutes. During this time, the goal is: Loot, fight, and collect as much as possible!
Some fragments feature additional events within the timeframe. One example is the so-called Hytale Void Breach. This is a particularly dangerous section of the dimension that becomes active for a few minutes and promises especially valuable loot—but with significant danger.
This entire mechanic surrounding the Hytale Fragment Worlds is what makes it so exciting. Every run with a new Fragment Key is a short, intense adventure involving risk, time pressure, and the chance to obtain rare resources. The Ancient Gateway, of course, remains open at all times. Fragment Keys, however, are consumable and must be re-crafted for each expedition.

A new Adventure awaits you behind every Portal
The Ancient Gateway in Hytale is more than just a portal. It’s a gateway to constantly new adventures, new biomes, and new challenges. A Fragment World run lasts only a few minutes, but feels extremely intense due to all the excitement. You plan the trip, dive into the adventure, collect valuable resources, and hopefully return with an inventory full of loot.
Things get really interesting in Hytale Multiplayer. Rushing through a Fragment World with friends, defeating enemies, and securing every bit of loot under time pressure are the moments Hytale was made for. If you don’t want to experience these adventures alone, a dedicated Hytale server from GPORTAL is well worth it. Collect memories, set up the Gateway, craft Fragment Keys, and embark on your next adventure!
