Valheim Inventory full? Here's how to get 16 extra slots

Here’s how to get more space in your Valheim inventory

To avoid the struggle of a full Valheim inventory, head over to the merchant Haldor. Since the Valheim 1.0 update, he’s been selling two upgrades for your inventory:

• Wider Pockets: +8 inventory slots for 1,000 coins
• Deeper Pockets: +8 additional inventory slots for 2,000 coins

If you buy both upgrades, you can expand your inventory by a total of 16 slots—or two full rows. However, before you can shop at Haldor’s, you’ll need to unlock the upgrades first.

Note:
Wider Pockets and Deeper Pockets give you more inventory space, but they do not increase your maximum carrying capacity.

Unlocking Wider Pockets

You’ll receive the first inventory upgrade, “Wider Pockets,” after defeating Moder. Moder is the Valheim boss in the mountain biome. As soon as you’ve defeated the dragon, Haldor will offer you the upgrade for 1,000 coins.

Especially if you do a lot of farming or regularly carry half your household with you, you’ll quickly appreciate the eight additional inventory slots.

Unlocking Deeper Pockets

To unlock the other eight slots with the “Deeper Pockets” upgrade, you must defeat The Queen in the Mistlands.

After that, it’ll be available from Haldor for 2,000 coins. That brings the total to 16 additional inventory slots, and hopefully you’ll find yourself asking less often what you still need or what you can throw away.

Here’s where to find Merchant Haldor

If you haven’t come across Merchant Haldor yet: You’ll find him in the Black Forest.

As soon as you’re close enough to his camp, a white bag icon will appear on your map. Since every Valheim world is procedurally generated, there’s unfortunately no fixed location where you’re guaranteed to find him. Haldor isn’t just useful for inventory upgrades, though. So if you haven’t visited him yet, you should definitely do so.

Don’t have enough coins? Fill up your wallet first

To get both upgrades, you’ll need to pay Haldor a total of 3,000 coins. If you don’t have enough, here are a few tips on how to get coins in Valheim:

• Search chests you find along the way
• Dungeons are a good place to pick up some coins
• You’ll get coins as loot from certain enemies
• For example, you can sell rubies, amber, and silver chains to Haldor

So if you’ve just started playing Valheim, there’s no need to panic and treat every coin like a precious treasure. Especially since you can’t get the first upgrade until after defeating Moder anyway, there’s no need to stress.
