How to turn off PVP in Minecraft

Tired of all that fighting? You just want to relax and go on a mob safari with your friends without accidentally getting bludgeoned? We’ll explain, how to disable PVP in Minecraft to roam around relaxed or spoil the fun for griefers.

Turn off PVP in Minecraft

GPORTAL Webinterface

With a Minecraft server from G-Portal, you can easily make this setting in our web interface. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Log on to our website
  2. Click on “My Server” in the menu on the left
  3. Select the desired server
  4. Click on “Basic settings” in the menu on the left
  5. Uncheck the “PVP” option
  6. Restart the server to implement the changes

Otherwise, you will have to make the setting manually. To do this, go to your server and open the server.properties file. Look for the line “pvp=true” and change it to “pvp=false”. Now save your changes and restart the server.

„pvp=true“ —> „pvp=false“

Once your peacefulness has subsided, you can undo this setting in the same way.

Turn off PVP in Minecraft: in-game

There is no chat command that lets you directly disable PVP throughout your Minecraft world. However, you can help yourself out with a simple trick and you don’t even have to leave the game to do it. First, execute the following command via the chat console:

/scoreboard teams add TEAMNAME

Now you have created a team with the name you specified at the end of the command. Next, simply add all the players that are present on your server. To do this, use this command:

/scoreboard teams join TEAMNAME PLAYERNAME

Run this command for every player on your server. Now all the players are in a single team and you can disable friendly fire with another command, which will prevent the players of the team from hurting each other:

/scoreboard teams option TEAMNAME friendlyfire false

Thus, you have – for all practical purposes – disabled PVP without leaving the game or actually disabling PVP. Of course, if a new player joins your server, he must also be added to the team. So this is a worse alternative than deactivating via our webinterface or the server.properties file. On the other hand, it can be done quickly and without interrupting the game.

Now you know all the methods you can use to disable or enable PVP in Minecraft. We wish you and your team a lot of fun in a more peaceful block world.
