Basics of the building system of Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest offers 2 different variants of building systems. Those who have played the first game, The Forest, can also use the blueprint system in Sons of the Forest and thus spend their time in the forest with premade buildings. If you want to be a bit more creative and create your own dwelling, you can use the new building system. In this system, you can basically place every tree trunk quite freely and thus assemble your dream house piece by piece.

Building with blueprints

As in The Forest, we have a small manual in which a whole series of blueprints are lined up. Starting with different dwellings, tree houses, drying racks for fish and meat, collection points for stones and sticks, and much more.

You select the blueprint and then place it in the game world. Then you bring the required materials to the blueprint and insert them. In the manual, you’ll also see what kind of raw materials and how much of each raw material you’ll need to build the object before you place it.

Free building

The free building system doesn’t give you much guidelines on how exactly you have to build your house. You cut down trees, take your trunks in hand and look for a place where you want to build. If you look at the ground, you will see different possibilities. For example, you can lay logs smoothly on the ground to form a foundation, or you can ram them vertically into the ground to construct an elevation on which you can then build the foundation.

But the system offers many more subtleties. You can divide tree trunks, for example, to hang short roof slopes on the vertically placed beams. This allows you to save some vertical intermediate beams when building a house and not have tree trunks everywhere in the house.

As you work with the building system, you will discover many more subtleties and possibilities. For creative minds, the building system is extremely extensive and allows for very many building options.

By the way, you can also build campfires, palisades and more in free building mode. However, many small things like stone containers are only possible with the blueprint system.
