Unfortunately, there is no possibility to get the mace while you explore the world. The only way to get a mace is by crafting it yourself. Since the mace is not craftable out of common sticks or metals like iron, you need two rare components you’ll find inside trial chambers:

  • Breeze Rod: it is dropped by the Breeze that spawns in trial chambers
  • Heavy Core: found in vaults that you unlock with an “Ominous Trial Key” inside trial chambers with a chance of 7.5%

Minecraft Mace Recipe: How to Craft the Mace?

The minecraft mace recipe is simple: combine 1 Heavy Core and 1 Breeze Rod in a crafting grid (inventory crafting works, too). Place the Heavy Core directly above the Breeze Rod in the same column to get the mace.

How Does the Mace Work in Minecraft?

If you strike while falling, you perform a Smash Attack: your fall damage is negated, nearby entities are knocked back, and the hit gains bonus damage that scales with fall height. Smash Attack damage scaling:

  • First 3 blocks fallen: +4 damage per block
  • Next 5 blocks: +2 damage per block
  • Every additional block: +1 damage per block

This scaling is triggered after falling a little over a block, so practical activation begins around 1.5–2 blocks, and the attack also creates a small knockback shockwave around the impact. There’s effectively no hard cap to the bonus, so extreme drops can one-shot even the toughest mobs.

Movement combos: Use Wind Charges to pop into the air, then drop with the mace in hand for reliable Mace Smash Attacks. Mojang has explicitly highlighted this synergy.

Best Mace Enchantments

You have three mace-exclusive enchantments plus the several known ones to choose from. The exclusives (brackets show max. level) define most builds:

  • Density (V): increases Smash Attack damage per fallen block (+0.5 per level). The go-to PvE damage enchantment.
  • Breach (IV): ignores 15% of armor per level. Strong for PvP or armored targets.
  • Wind Burst (III): launches you upward after a successful Smash Attack (~7 blocks per level) so you can chain aerial hits; obtainable from Ominous Vault books

Recommended setups:

  • PvE / bosses: Density V, Wind Burst III, Unbreaking III, Mending. Chain jumps for huge Smash damage.
  • PvP / armored foes: Breach IV, Wind Burst III, Unbreaking III, Mending. Land from above to pierce armor.

Choosing which enchantment best suits your playstyle depends on the following:

  • Choose Density if your fights allow vertical play (ledges, Wind Charges, parkour). It scales your Smash Attack the most and is ideal for PvE.
  • Choose Breach if you regularly fight armored players or mobs where armor is the main defense. In flat arenas without height, Breach provides more consistent value.
